TEDxWilsonPark Announces 2019 Search for Speakers

Florence, Ala. – Following their inaugural event in September 2018, TEDxWilsonPark organizers are once again searching for a dynamic lineup of speakers for 2019.

“Last year’s TEDx was a huge success, so we immediately went into planning 2019’s event,” said organizer Kristen Mashburn, event organizer.

TEDxWilsonPark’s 2019 event is currently set for August 24, 2019 in Florence.

“We had 10 incredible speakers from around the Shoals and across the country last year,” said Mashburn. “But we know the topics covered were only a drop in the bucket of what this community has to offer. There’s a lot more we can learn and appreciate from each other here in the Shoals.”

Those interested in applying to speak at TEDxWilsonPark 2019 can do so by applying online, at www.tedxwilsonpark.com, by February 18, 2019. Speakers will be chosen by committee one week later and announced on their website. If selected, the speaker’s talk would be filmed at the event and an edit would be hosted on the TEDx YouTube channel.

“This is an incredible opportunity for passionate people to share their experiences and perspectives with our community. This means applicants don’t have to be professional speakers. They just need to be committed to crafting their talk for the TEDx stage,” said Wes Wages, event producer.

TED is an acronym for technology, entertainment and design, but the program has grown to include a variety of topics including education, business, activism and science. The conference is built on the model and under license from the TED Conference, an annual gathering of some of the world’s most fascinating and influential people. This local edition, brings together some of the leading minds in the area to share ideas, insight and discussion. The program features talks, ranging in length from 3 to 18 minutes, and conversation breaks where audience members and speakers have the opportunity to talk and exchange ideas.

“TEDx conferences bring together a community of ideas to inspire change and progress," said Mashburn. "We are excited to once again bring this to the Shoals.”
