Fostering should be about supporting an entire family instead of just the child in order to affect systemic change.
EMILY BORDEN
Emily Borden has been a foster parent for 11 years and, alongside her husband Matt, has opened her home to more than 140 children in care. Married for 12 years, Emily and Matt have also adopted four children from foster care and are raising a busy, love-filled family with children ages 2, 7, 7, 13, 19, 21, and 23.
Emily has served as a foster parent trainer for 8 years and is a dedicated advocate with AFAPA. She also serves as Co-President of the Shoals Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, where she works to support and encourage foster and adoptive families in her community. Emily is especially passionate about advocating for teenagers, particularly youth aging out of care without strong support systems. In her role at Kids to Love as an Outreach coordinator and foster parent trainer, she channels that passion into meaningful support for older youth as they transition out of foster care and into adulthood.
A creative at heart, Emily also teaches theatre and directs plays, bringing storytelling, encouragement, and connection into every area of her life.
