MEGGIN TALLMAN

Meggin Tallman is a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner with a deep commitment to tackling pediatric obesity in rural Alabama. Drawing from her early career as a nurse volunteering in developing countries, Meggin has always been driven by a mission to serve vulnerable populations and address healthcare disparities.

After a few years of noticing great need for care and inspired by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ first-ever Pediatric Obesity Practice Guidelines released in 2023, Meggin established a pediatric obesity clinic within the small pediatrician’s office where she practices. Her clinic is one of only two in the state of Alabama focused on applying these guidelines to support children struggling with obesity and its related comorbidities.

Recognizing that pediatric obesity is a catalyst for numerous health challenges that diminish both the quality and length of children’s lives, Meggin took the guidelines and put them into action.

She developed a team, a compliance system, and an individualized approach that meets families where they are—financially, socially, and educationally. Her innovative model emphasizes education and empowerment, aiming to redirect families toward healthier futures with compassion and understanding.

At TEDx Wilson Park, Meggin will share her journey of building this clinic from the ground up, the challenges and triumphs of working with rural families, and the transformative power of personalized healthcare. Her talk will explore how meeting families where they are can change the trajectory of not only a child’s but a whole family’s health.

When not at work, Meggin enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children. They enjoy traveling, singing, reading, and engaging in the community as a family. She encourages her own children just as she does those she cares for in clinic, that while many things around you will change in life, your worth doesn’t.
